List of States Parties to the conventions on the avoidance of cases of multiple nationality

The issue of citizenship of children whose parents had different nationalities was regulated not only in the provisions of the Act on Polish Citizenship, but also in the international agreements ratified by Poland in the field of citizenship.
This means that, in such a case, the provisions of the Polish Citizenship Act were not applied.Poland had been a party to the Convention on the avoidance of cases of multiple nationality with the following countries:

  1. Bulgaria – from 07.02.1972 to 13.06.1991
  2. Czechoslovakia – from 17.05.1965 to:
    • Czech Republic - 20.05.2001
    • Slovakia - 20.05.2001
  3. Mongolia – from 23.05.1975 to 31.12.2000
  4. East Germany – from 12.11.1975 to 03.10.1990
  5. Hungary – from 05.07.1961 to 12.02.1994
  6. USSR – from 31.03.1965 to:
    • Armenia – 30.06.1991
    • Azerbaijan - 16.02.1994
    • Belarus - 21.02.2001
    • Estonia - 21.07.1991
    • Georgia - 13.09.2001
    • Kazakhstan -12.03.1996
    • Kyrgyzstan - 13.09.2001
    • Lithuania – 11.03.1990
    • Latvia - 04.05.1990
    • Moldova - 13.09.2001
    • Russia - 29.04.2002
    • Tajikistan - 13.09.2001
    • Turkmenistan - 13.09.2001
    • Ukraine - 21.02.2001
    • Uzbekistan - 17.01.1995

Children born after the date of termination of the convention acquire Polish citizenship if one of their parents is a Polish citizen at the time of their birth.
