60 Second Security – Bike Security

Hi, I’m PC Chris Hayden and welcome to our series of videos all around simple security advice. And we’re going to do this in just 60 seconds! In the UK a bike is stolen every minute and only a tiny percentage are reunited with their owners. Most of the time those stolen aren’t locked properly! A poor quality lock can be removed in seconds. Look for one with a ‘Sold Secure’ rating of bronze, silver or gold, preferably a D lock. Gold means it’s been tested to the highest level. When locking ensure as many parts of your bike as possible are within the D lock. Consider adding a second lock to secure any detachable parts. Always lock your bike even if it’s only for a minute and make sure it’s attached to something immovable. Try to park in busy, well lit places, avoiding isolated and vulnerable areas. Remember to lock it up in the same way even when it’s being stored at home, in your shed, garage or halls of residence. Photograph your bike, make a note of the make, model and frame number and register it FREE on immobilise.com This is simple security but effective! (Ding Ding)
