60 Second Security – Vehicle Crime

Hi, I’m PC Chris Hayden and welcome to our series of videos all around simple security advice. And we’re going to do this in just 60 seconds! Thieves often spot an opportunity and this is where most vehicle crime is committed. For example when you leave something attractive to a passing criminal like some loose change, a bag, phone or sat nav. Never leave ANYTHING of value on view, clean off sat nav sucker marks and ensure windows are fully closed. When you use your remote, take a moment to physically check the door is locked. Remember your keys are valuable to a thief. When you’re at home, keep them out of sight and away from doors, windows, letterboxes and even cat flaps. Whilst out and about try to park in busy, well lit places, avoiding isolated areas. Never leave your car running without you in it! For example defrosting in winter. You could lose your car and may find your insurance void. Theft of number plates is on the increase. Make sure yours are secure and consider using anti-tamper screws and plates. This is simple security, but effective! (Vroooom!)
