AppTV: TP-Link Home Security

– Welcome back to AppTV,
I’m Tasia Custode. Today, we’re talking home security. Stick around to find out how to easily protect your humble abode. (upbeat pop music) Join me, Tasia Custode– – [Richard] And me, Richard Harlow. – For another episode of AppTV. There are a ton of
wifi-enabled security cameras to choose from and it
can seem overwhelming. Today, I’ll walk you
through a great option: TP-Link’s NC450 HD Pan/Tilt
Wi-Fi Camera with Night Vision. The device is white and
cylindrical in shape and can rotate 360 degrees horizontally and 150 degrees vertically. It has a quarter-inch
progressive CMOS sensor that captures video and still
images at 720p resolution and records them to a microSD card. The TP-Link NC450 also has night vision, thanks to infrared LED illumination, so it’s able to capture video and images up to 26 feet in the dark. The camera will also
detect motion and sound and send you email and push notifications. The first thing you’ll need to do is connect your camera and your smartphone to your wireless router. You’ll know your camera
is properly connected to your network once there
is a solid green light on it. To connect your smartphone, you’ll need to download
the TP-Link tpCamera app. The app is available on
iOS and Android devices. When you open the app for the first time, you’ll be prompted to allow the app to send you notifications. Click allow in the
bottom-right on the pop-up. You’ll have to sign in on the app or tap the local button at the very bottom and the app will locate any camera on the same network as your mobile device. To find your camera manually, select find camera and
then select the NC450 icon. The app will then ask you
if the device is connected. Select yes in the pop-up. Once the app finds your camera, you’ll be prompted to create
a password for your camera. Type in a password and tap submit at the bottom of the pop-up. Pro tip: Set up a secure
password for your camera. No camera123. Set up one that is difficult
and less likely to be hacked. Now, here you’ll be prompted
to name your camera. So if you’re mounting your
camera at your front door, you could call it Front Door Cam or leave it titled the
default name, Little Cam. Click enjoy now and voila, your camera is now connected
to your mobile device. You’ll be able to see a live
view of it using the app. In the camera view, you’ll also be able to pan the camera up and down by selecting the arrow to the left. What’s really cool is
you can slide your finger left or right on your screen
over the camera to rotate it. For more information on the TP-Link camera and all of their products,
