AT&T Allows Home Security Control via Smartphones

(Image source: Digital Trends) BY BRIANA ALTERGOTT AT&T’s newest development is making home security
pretty darn cool. The company is now offering a service called
Digital Life that allows its customers to control various parts of their homes with
a smartphone or tablet. Perks include the ability to control home
security cameras, door locks, lights, thermostats, small appliances, and more all from your smartphone
or tablet. You can even shut off a water leak by remotely shutting off the valve. The LA Times reports AT&T Digital Life senior
vice president said in a statement, “People rely on their mobile devices more than ever,
so Digital Life offers an easy and convenient way to secure their homes, protect their families
and simplify their lives from virtually anywhere.” Digital Life has been in existence since last
year and the company hopes to provide the service in 50 markets by the end of 2013. Customers can choose from two package options.
The basic will give you the home monitoring service, a 24-hour backup battery, an indoor
siren, and more for $30 a month. The advanced package also includes a glass break sensor,
a smoke sensor, and a motion sensor for $10 more.

to your plan, like connected door locks for $5 a month or video surveillance cameras for
$10 a month. Digital Life could prove to be pretty important
for AT&T’s revenue stream. Finding new ways to bring in money is becoming increasingly
important for cell phone providers these days because most people who want a cell phone
already have one, so companies are seeing a drop in new subscribers each year.
