Link Interactive Home Security System Review

Link Interactive Home Security System Review

Gabe Turner: Hello, everyone. This is Gabe at Security Baron. Maybe today you find yourself looking for
a customizable home security system that still won’t break the bank. Well, today we’re reviewing the Link Interactive
Home Security System and let’s see if it fits that mold. [music] Gabe: If you like to see a list of our favorite
home security systems, google “Security Baron Best Home Security Systems.” If you have a question about today’s review,
leave a comment below and I’ll get back to you. Today, we’re talking about the Link Interactive
System. I’ll go over all the components that we bought. How easy it was to setup, their professional
monitoring, their customer support and the app. Let’s dive in. With the Link Interactive, you can order a
host of components that suit your needs. It is very customizable in terms of the packages. You don’t have to go through and get everything
in the same cookie-cutter manner. Rather, just buy the pieces that fit your
needs. Of course you’ll always start with something
like the Go! Control home panel, but it’s a very customizable
system. That’s something that Link Interactive prides
themselves on. Let’s go ahead and talk about the components
that I got with my package. Let’s begin with the essential components
of the Link Interactive Home Security System, which is the Go! Control home panel. In terms of its design, it’s pretty basic,
but a pleasant aesthetic overall. It’s got white and gray. You’ll note that it does have a few actual
buttons here and here with the speaker microphone and this touch panel. Everything goes through this central hub. I connected my lock through this hub. I’m able to go in arm and disarm my system. This is the manner by which everything is
talking to each other. Ultimately, who you’ll talk to through the
professional monitoring service. Next, we have the entry sensors for the Link
Interactive Home Security System. Now, you place the larger part on the frame
of the door or window and the smaller part on the part that I’ve seen moves of the window
or door, so that you’re notified whenever there is movement on your door or your window. It helps you to protect all your points of
entry in your home. Generally, they have to stay within a pencil
width of one another, otherwise, you’ll be alerted to something happening. The next item that we got in our components
for the Link Interactive Home Security System is the Kwikset Smart Code deadbolt. With this system, which by the way is quite
hands on with the… What is that, like a satin and nickel or something
and a nice, glossy, blackface? You’ll note that there is the deadbolt, the
actual lock on the inside and our keypad with the keyhole. There are three ways that the system functions. One is by typing in on the keypad the code
that unlocks the door. On top of that, you can use your app, which
is great. Then if anyone is getting in your home, no
matter where you are in the world, you can open it directly through the app. Of course, if you have an uncle who doesn’t
like to use technology, you’ve got your physical keys. That’s the Kwikset Smart Code Deadbolt with
the Link Interactive Home Security System. Another item that we order with our Link Interactive
home security package is the Skybell Video Doorbell. It is a pretty hands-on little circular doorbell
camera. It has to be hardwired directly into your
existing doorbell chime. That serves as its power and allows you to
actually hear the doorbell. It does have this light here to help illuminate. It has a motion detector. The motion detector can detect things within
eight feet. As soon as someone approaches your porch or
your front door, you should be alerted to their presence. You should be able to see them in the dark. See them in 1080p resolution because that
is the video quality of the Skybell Video Doorbell. The final component in our Link Interactive
Home Security System is the WiFi Security Camera, manufactured by alarm.com. Anyone who knows me knows that I love security
cameras. I even came up with a Security Baron necessary
features list to talk about all of the functionality. Before I go into that, let’s talk about its
design. Here, it’s got a pretty common aesthetic with
the white camera and black face. What’s a little bit different about this camera
is that you’ve got the glossiness around the perimeter and the mat right directly around
the lens. It has a lot of flexibility. You can move it in a lot of directions. You can rotate it one way to another. On the back, you’ve got Ethernet because you
initially should set it up directly connected to your Internet router. You’ve got their power adapter. On the bottom, you have this nice rubber,
let’s see, mounting pad, so that you can place it down softly on anything. Let’s jump into that necessary features test. Hold on, let’s take a break. Every month here at Security Baron, we like
to give a subscriber and commenter a chance to win a $200 Amazon gift card. We’re giving these away monthly. All you have to do is subscribe to our page
and leave a comment on a video like the one you’re watching right now. You’ll be entered to win a $200 Amazon gift
card. Back to your regular scheduled programming. Video quality is a necessary feature for Security
Baron and here, the alarm.com manufactured WiFi camera comes with our standard of 1080p,
so you’re going to get a nice, crisp picture. Where it’s lacking is it only has 113 degrees
in terms of its field of view, so you’re not going to capture everything even the normal
human eye could capture. We typically like to see 120 at a minimum
and we like anything above that, so you’re not really reaching that at 113 degree field
of view. Fortunately, when it comes to the Security
Baron necessary feature of two-way audio, the alarm.com manufactured WiFi Security Camera
comes through. You’re able to talk to whoever is there and
they can speak directly to you, be they a friend or foe, and that’s something that we
really like to see in all of our cameras. Two-way audio is present in the alarm.com
WiFi Security Camera. With every system, including the Link Interactive
Home Security System, we like to see the necessary feature of night vision with our WiFi Security
Cameras. In here, we have two infrared LEDs to help
light those dark evenings in your home when you want to see exactly what’s going on. Fortunately, despite only being two infrared
LEDs, we’re actually pretty impressed with the night vision on the alarm.com camera,
so we definitely want to say that, “Hey, good job on that alarm.com.” A Security Baron necessary feature is local
and cloud storage and fortunately the alarm.com manufactured camera with the Link Interactive
Home Security System comes with both. So, you have a space for your local SD card
and you can look at it in the cloud. So, when it comes to cloud storage and local
storage, the Link Interactive Home Security System comes equipped. Here at Security Baron, when it comes to the
necessary features test, we like our cameras to be smart. By smart, I mean some smart platform integration
like Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant, or even Apple Home Care. Now, fortunately for us, the alarm.com manufactured
camera does come with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. We can control the camera just using our voice
when we, basically, put it in conjunction with our Amazon Echo or Google Home. When it comes to smart platform integration,
they definitely have that option with the alarm.com manufactured camera with the Link
Interactive Home Security System. The final necessary feature for indoor security
cameras that we’ll go over today has to do with artificial intelligence and basically,
the alarm.com manufactured camera is completely lacking. You’re not going to see any facial recognition
technology or even person detection. Now, of course, you have professional monitoring
to help mitigate that, but it’s nice to have some capabilities built into your camera directly. When it comes to artificial intelligence,
there’s nothing doing what the alarm.com manufactured camera with the Link Interactive Home Security
System. Let’s go to my favorite component of any home
security system, your yard sign and window decal. These go a long way to deterring people from
entering your property. You always want to have your yard sign out
front so people know what’s going on and who they’re dealing with. You want your Link Interactive window decal
to be stuck onto your window so that even before they open that window and the system
alerts you to their presence, they know that they shouldn’t even think about it with the
Link Interactive Home Security System at your home. Those are all the pieces that we order with
our Link Interactive Home Security Systems but I do want to mention that there are a
host of other components that you can add to your system as it is very customizable,
like the key fob, panic button, glass break detectors, motion sensors, and even some environmental
monitoring elements like carbon monoxide detector and smoke detector. These are all things that you can get in your
own do-it-yourself package from Link Interactive. We have shown you all of the pieces that we
order with our particular Link Interactive Home Security System, so let’s jump into setting
it up. Considering we knew exactly what we wanted
when we started this process. What’s great about Link Interactive is that
it’s a plug-and-play. It doesn’t require you to call and set it
up through them, you can mostly do it yourself. The first thing I did was plug in my hub,
and it was ready to go. You have to remember when you call Link Interactive
to order your system initially, they walk through this entire process and they basically
pre-program most of the pieces so that they’re ready to go when they get to your home. Then I moved on to the pre-programmed motion
sensors and that is also a pretty straightforward process. I’m familiar now with putting my pieces on
the frame, on the door, on the window frame, and on the window. That process wasn’t too difficult and didn’t
require any extra work. That’s the first two elements that I always
do with my Link Interactive Home Security System. I’d say I want to go from the outside in when
discussing setting up the rest of my system. Let’s start with the Kwikset Smart Code Deadbolt. When installing any lock in your home, there
are two elements. There’s the reciprocity with the rest of the
system and there’s the actual installation on your door. Let’s start with what’s most important, or
at least what comes first, which is the setting it up with your system. I found that mine did not come pre-programmed
to work with my system. I called the Link Interactive and I must commend
them on how quickly I was able to get this matter resolved with the customer service
agent. I called. I hit one for existing customer. I was immediately put on the phone with a
gentleman, and I said, “Hey, I’ve got this Kwikset Smart Code Deadbolt, but I can’t seem
to get it to work with my system.” He walked me through the entire process and
guided me to setting it up with the Link Interactive system. The Link Interactive system is Z-Wave along
with this lock. I was able to make them see one another while
on the phone with him. He guided me through what he was seeing on
his system as I set it up. It was very easy. It probably took me no more than 10 minutes
and I was ready to go with my lock. The second part is the actual installation
on the exterior of your door. If we note from these pieces and the deadbolt,
there are not that much to do that distinguishes it from a normal lock that you would set up. You got your outward facing your exterior
facing portion. This is where your keyhole is, and where you
can enter and your internal lock where you lock your door. Just because we can open and close through
an app, nothing else changes. However, if you do want someone to install
it for you, Link Interactive can help you find someone to do that. Otherwise, you can follow YouTube videos and
think about when you’re installing any other lock even those from Kwikset that aren’t smart
locks. Next, let’s jump into the video doorbell. Something that must be mentioned is that this
system must be hardwired into your existing doorbell. That means that the chime and the power all
comes from that infrastructure that you find in a lot of homes. If you’re someone like me who lives in Brooklyn,
while not impossible, you may want to look for a different type of doorbell because oftentimes
we don’t have doorbells in our homes or they’re connected to a host of apartments. That’s just something to think about. Beyond that, it’s not that complicated. Of course, if we need someone to help you
install it, Link Interactive can help you find someone, but it’s definitely not a system
that you’re going to want to employ without knowing that there needs to be an existing
infrastructure for a traditional doorbell in your home. The final component of our custom at Link
Interactive Home Security System is the alarm.com manufactured WiFi Security Camera. Something that will note is that when you
initially set this up, you have to plug in not only the power adapter but also the ethernet
cable. It is pre-programmed with your system. Once it’s plugged in, you go to the Link Interactive
interface on alarm.com. You’ll hit “Add camera” under video and be
ready to go. When you hit “Add camera,” it’ll fill in the
necessary data. From there, it will upgrade the firmware,
update the software, and you’re ready to go. You can then set it up so that it works purely
from WiFi and not worry about having that pesky ethernet cable always connected. Now that we’ve gone through setting up your
Link Interactive Home Security System, let’s talk about what you get with it. By that, it’s professional monitoring services. Professional monitoring means that 24/7, you
have a team of trained professionals at your disposal to help you protect your home. Let’s talk about the options and services
that Link Interactive offers. The four options that Link Interactive offers
are professional monitoring, life safety, home automation, and HD monitoring. The first option, professional monitoring,
is that 24/7 servers that will dispatch the proper authorities to your home. It could be a kid or a possum or whatever,
but you’ll get a phone call. If they’re not able to get in touch with you,
or if you don’t get in the safe word because you’re not sure exactly what’s happening,
they will dispatch the proper authorities to your home. Life safety takes all of those professional
monitoring elements and also those in the environmental monitoring. If you have a CO2 or a smoke detector, it
will also be sure to call you and let you know what’s happening in your home related
to these environmental elements. The third option of home automation allows
you to control your lights and your locks, and all the things in your home directly through
your Link Interactive alarm.com app. If you want those capabilities, you’re going
to want to do the third option of home automation. The fourth and ultimate option is the HD video
monitoring which allows you to decide not only when to record footage from your camera
but live stream it from anywhere at any time. Something I want to mention right from the
outset about the Link Interactive Home Security System and its professional monitoring plans
is how simple and straightforward they are. This is not the case with a lot of the systems
that we review, but they’re very straightforward. For $30, you get the standard plan that gives
you the professional monitoring and life safety. You can know anything going on environmentally
in your home and just get the standard security monitoring. For $35.99 a month, you get the gold plan. The gold plan gives you everything from the
standard plan plus home automation. You can control all the things in your homes
that are attached to your Link Interactive alarm.com app. Finally, you have the elite plan which is
$40.99 a month that adds everything from the standard and gold plan but also allows you
to watch any live stream at any point that you need to and decide when your cameras record. Now that we’ve gone over the monthly plans,
let’s discuss what Link Interactive offers in terms of contracts. You get a one, two or three-year contract,
and of course, your price will be dependent on how long you want to be locked in for. Once you complete your contract, you can move
to a month-to-month plan. Remember that when you’re talking to these
companies, you can often negotiate with the sales agent. We have gotten to the dreaded customer support
section. Let’s talk about what are your options you
need to talk to customer support for Link Interactive. You have a few. You can fill out a form online on their website. You can Live Chat. You can send an email or you can just call
up a representative on the phone. We had a very positive experience with Link
Interactive in terms of getting our system set up. Let’s talk about what other people are saying
through Google and the Better Business Bureau. When it comes to Google, we must say that
we were blown away by Link Interactive scores. They got a 4.6 out of five stars. That’s using 141 different reviews. Many of those reviews particularly highlighted
the customer support service that they received. When it comes to customer support, 4.6 out
of 5 stars is one of the highest ratings we’ve ever seen. We definitely commend them for how well they’re
doing, from Google. When it comes to the Better Business Bureau,
we have a much smaller sample size. Of course, they received an A+ from the Better
Business Bureau, which is great, but that just means that they are complying with government
guidelines and not advertising falsely. When it comes to actual customer reviews,
there were only three. Two were five star, and one was one star. That one star review was written in all caps,
which is always a little bit aggressive. We do want to note, though, that they responded
very professionally to that one star review. It generally gave us an overall good feeling
about Link Interactive’s customer support team. Now, Link Interactive does not have its own
app in the traditional sense. You rather use the Link Interactive interface
on the alarm.com app. We’re going to jump in and show you our own
impressions of the app for Link Interactive, but before we do so, let’s talk about what
people are saying in the App Store and the Google Play Store. In the App store, people seem to love the
alarm.com app. It’s got a 4.4 out of 5 star ratings, which
is excellent, when the vast majority of those are 5 star reviews. Interestingly, not only do they get a 4.4
out of 5 in the App Store, but also in the Google Play Store. People seem to be really enjoying their experience
and finding the app rather intuitive. Let’s jump into our own perspective on the
alarm.com app for the Link Interactive Home Security System on my iPhone. Let’s look at the Link Interactive Home Security
System as interface with the alarm.com app. Now, if you note on the initial screen, you
get your scenes, and the very first thing it says is whether or not your system is armed
or disarmed. With that green shown in the middle, we know
that our system is disarmed. Below that you have weather, the locks, and
the video. Now, let’s take it piece by piece. If I wanted to initially see about arming
my system, I’d tap on that green shield. I can one, turn off the inter-delay, or decide
to arm my system with armed stay or arm away. App: System on stay. Gabe: Now, I’ve begun to arm my system. If I decide I don’t want to do that, I can
hit disarm and I’m back to normal. App: System disarmed, not ready to arm. Gabe: If I go to the top-left corner, you’ll
see there are three little lines. Those three little lines tell me that that’s
my settings. I jump into settings and there are a host
of options below. You’ve got home, scenes, security system,
images, locks, video, lights, thermostats. Remember, with the Link Interactive System,
if you get that Home Automation Professional monitoring package, you can do a lot. You can control everything in your home. Let’s go into scenes, which is also on the
landing page. This allows you to see what exactly is going
on with the active sensors in your home. Then, you can go into security system and
look at the various options. Below that, you can look at images. Now, we don’t have that as a part of our actual
system right now, but if we were to add it to our plan, we could look at various images
inside of this gallery. For locks, we do have the lock. We can lock and unlock it directly from the
app. I could hit that, it’ll assume the lock I
command, and it will turn the lock, which is cool thing to witness from wherever you
are. I go back out of that, and I can go directly
to video. If you remember, video is also an option on
that very front page. Let’s go ahead and look. I named this camera Baronopolis. There I am. I’ve muted it, because I don’t want that double-sound
issue that you get when you’re recording yourself, but Baronopolis cam works in the live setting,
or we can go and save. Of course, there are various settings even
within video. Now, we don’t have any lights or thermostats
connected with our Link Interactive system. Let’s go into notifications. I have push notifications on, as you may have
noted when I armed or disarmed the system, it popped up to tell me that that happened. That’s because I just want to know what’s
going on with my system at all times. If you would rather have fewer, you can simply
click this button and boom. This device has been paused from all notifications. You don’t have to worry about getting every
little thing sent to your phone, by turn it off, push notifications. Geo-services is also an option which will
basically allow you to input rules based on your location. If I leave my home, I can actually have it
set to a way just by using the geo-services part of this application. Then you have app settings, where you can
simply open the app using your face ID and passcode, various elements for the 3D touch. Of course, those are all because I’m using
this on an iOS Apple iPhone with face ID. Depending on what phone you’re using, it may
be different for you. Below that, you have contact support, you
can review the app, and there are various feature suggestions, which allows you to go
through and see what all you can do. You’ll see here it has garage access, live
video, smart lock, and smart thermostat. We’re doing all right. We have two of the four. I live in New York and very few people have
garages. It’s not particularly important to me, but
it may be so for you. That’s something to think about when you’re
trying to set up your Link Interactive system, and you’re on the phone with the sales representative. Just think, “Hey, what are my conditions? What is the state of my life? What do I need?” I go back to the home page and you’ll note
that all those options are still available, scenes, security systems, weather with today’s
forecast and the week forecast which is useful, got locks, and your video is visible directly
from the lighting page. You’ll note that below that, you can hit the,
“Hold to talk.” This camera allows for two-way audio. If I were wanting to speak to someone in the
home, I could simply hit “Hold to talk” and speak directly to them, and I’d be able to
hear them speaking back to me. The final thing I’ll go over is if you hit
in the right upper-hand corner, you’ll note there is a history. This is very similar to the history of advanced
inside of the Go! Control Panel by Link Interactive. This allows you to see everything that’s taken
place inside of your home security system right there in the app. I really like this. I think it’s useful and it’s just cool to
see what all you’ve done in the day. That’s checking out the Link Interactive Home
Security System as it interfaces with the alarm.com mobile application. Let’s take a look at the Go! Control Panel from Link Interactive, and see
how it controls your entire system. You note, you have this speaker microphone
on the outside, and you got these two analog buttons. Got your button that lets you essentially
call any of the proper authorities, or do panic, fire, emergency, and your home button… [beep] Gabe: …that allows you to go and check out
the actual LED screen. If you note, on the initial screen, it basically
tells you a few elements about your system and it gives you the date and time, along
with the weather at various intervals. The main things that you’re going to do with
this system are arm and disarm your system. [beep] Gabe: If I hit security. [beep] Gabe: Hit “Arm.” Now, you’ll note that it says window open. I have one of the window’s open for the system,
because it gets very hot here, and I can bypass it. [beeps] Gabe: Now, I can actually set this system
to arm, either stay or away. Away will trigger all of my sensors, my window,
my door, while the stay will just trigger the window and the door sensor. I’ll say stay. [beeps] App: Arming “Stay”. Bypass window one. Gabe: This is your entry delay, and this will
basically give you one minute to get out of your home once you begun the arming process. I actually don’t want to arm my system now,
I’ll hit “Disarm.” [beeps] App: System disarmed. Not ready to arm. Gabe: There you go. Now, let’s look at some of the other options
within the touchscreen panel. [beep] Gabe: I can go to my emergency services. [beep] Gabe: You got your panic button, you got fire
dispatch, and the emergency service and dispatch, which will get things like the police out
to your home. Back out of here… [beep] Gabe: …and go into our toolbox. [beep] Gabe: We’ll look at… [beep] Gabe: …”User Management.” Add user, add user, and look that the master
user password is “1111.” That is what it is when you set up your system. [beep] Gabe: There are more basic things like chimes
and brightness, and the volume that you could all control inside of your toolbox, along
with looking at your system history, which may be more interesting. [beep] Gabe: In here, in your system history, you’ll
see that we have 22 events. This allows us to go through and… [beeps] Gabe: …see all the things that happened
today. [beeps] Gabe: Gives you a way of keeping up with everything
that’s done down on your security system. [beeps] Gabe: Finally, I can go check out my status
on that initial landing page. [beep] App: System disarmed. Not ready to arm. Window one, open. [beep] Gabe: That let me know that this window is
keeping my system from wanting to arm itself, but of course, I can bypass it. That’s how it look at the Go! Control Panel with the Link Interactive Home
Security System. Here I am, checking out the video quality
on the alarm.com manufactured security cam with the Link Interactive Home Security System. If you note, you’ve got some pretty nice 1080p. In a wide room like this, you may even be
able to notice that it’s only got 113 degree field of view, but we’ve got our great digital
zoom, action that we would to do here. You can give a little globe test and you can
note, “Hey. Here we go. I stopped at right on Africa.” You can’t, let’s say, make out what each country
is, but for a camera that comes with a home security system, it’s definitely adequate. That’s how I was checking out the video quality
on the alarm.com manufactured WiFi Security Cam. Here I am, checking out the night vision on
the alarm.com camera as it interfaces with the Link Interactive Home Security System. It works pretty well. It’s only got two infrared LEDs, but that
allows me to see pretty clearly. The fact that I’m wearing this silly hat,
and the things that are going on in this room. For the globe test, you can actually see what’s
happening on the globe. While it’s not the best night vision that
we’ve ever seen, it basically corresponds pretty well with the camera itself as it pertains
to the daytime quality. That’s the night vision on the alarm.com manufactured
home security camera. Today, we have covered a lot in reference
to the Link Interactive Home Security System, from which components we decided to order,
to its professional monitoring and customer support. Ultimately, the question we want to answer
is whether or not this system is right for you. If you aren’t really keen on long-term contracts,
or want a system that more actively integrates with your smart platform, then you might want
to look for something else. However, if you want a stellar customer support
team and a solid app for your home security system, then Link Interactive might be right
up your alley. [background music] Gabe: That’s our review of the Link Interactive
Home Security System. If you appreciated today’s video, give us
a like. Hit that subscribe button. As always, this is Gabe at Security Baron. Be secure.

  2. So if Alarm.com makes the camera, are all Alarm.com cameras compatible with this system? Tl
I've pretty much watched all of your reviews for various systems. You have really help me narrow it down.
