Police Take Surveillance To A WHOLE New Level

Police Take Surveillance To A WHOLE New Level

POLICE OFFICIALS IN FRESNO,
CALIFORNIA ARE BEING QUESTIONED ABOUT THE WAY THEY
ARE SURVEILLING THEIR RESIDENTS. THE WAY THEY ARE DOING IT IS A
VERY COMPREHENSIVE PLAN, A VERY COMPETENT STRATEGY. THEY DON’T DO WHAT MOST POLICE
DEPARTMENTS DO, WHICH IS TO RELY ON FEDERAL OR LOCAL
DATABASES. THEY ARE USING A NEW SOFTWARE
THAT COMBINES ALL OF THE DATABASES YOU CAN THINK OF,
AND ALSO GIVES INDIVIDUAL SCORES BASED ON WHAT THEY HAVE
POSTED IN THE PUBLIC. SPECIFICALLY ON SOCIAL MEDIA. “A NEW GENERATION OF TECHNOLOGY
SUCH AS THE B WHERE SOFTWARE BEING USED IN FRESNO CALIFORNIA
HAS GIVEN LOCAL LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS UNPRECEDENTED POWER TO PEER INTO THE LIVES OF
CITIZENS.” SOME DETAILED EXAMPLES, “ON
FIFTY-SEVEN MONITORS THAT COVER THE WALLS OF THE POLICE STATION,
OPERATORS EXHUMED AND PANNED AN ARRAY OF ROUGHLY 200 POLICE
CAMERAS PERCHED ACROSS THE CITY. THEY COULD BUY WHAT 800
MORE FEEDS FROM THE CITY’S SCHOOLS AND TRAFFIC CAMERAS, AND
THEY SOON HOPE TO ADD 400 MORE STREAMS FROM CAMERAS ONE ON
OFFICERS BODIES AND FROM THOUSANDS FROM LOCAL BUSINESSES
THAT HAVE SURVEILLANCE SYSTEMS. OFFICERS CAN ALSO TRAWL A
DATABASE THAT HAS RECORDED MORE THAN 2 BILLION SCANS OF VEHICLE LICENSE
PLATES AND LOCATIONS NATIONWIDE. IF GUNSHOTS WERE FIRED, A SYSTEM
CALLED SHOTSPOTTER QUOTA TRIANGULATE THE LOCATION USING
MICROPHONES AND STRONG AROUND THE CITY. ANOTHER MEDIA PROGRAM CALLED
MEDIA SONAR CRAWLED SOCIAL MEDIA LOOKING FOR ILLICIT
ACTIVITY. POLICE USED IT TO MONITOR
INDIVIDUALS, THAT TO SCHOOLS AND HASHTAGS
RELATED TO GANGS.” I WANT TO TALK ABOUT THE LAST
PART, BECAUSE IT IS PROBLEMATIC BECAUSE IT IS BASED ON WHAT
YOU POST ON SOCIAL MEDIA. SOMETIMES THE THINGS YOU POST
ON SOCIAL MEDIA ARE NOT REAL TO WHO YOU ACTUALLY ARE. THERE WAS A COUNCIL MEMBER WHO
WANTED TO TEST IT BASED ON WHAT HE POSTED. HE WAS A GREEN, MEANING NOT A
THREAT, BUT HIS HOME CAME UP AS A YELLOW, MEANING SOMEONE LIVING
IN THE HOME COULD BE A THREAT. HE IS LIKE, NO ONE IN MY FAMILY
IS A THREAT, IT MUST BE SOMEONE WHO USED TO
LIVE AT MY HOUSE. SO WHAT HAPPENS IF I CALL THE
POLICE IF I NEED YOU? THE POLICE ARE GOING TO SHOW UP
PARANOID, AND THAT IS NOT GOOD. AS USUAL WITH THESE
THINGS, IT IS A MIXED BAG. IF SOMEONE YOU KNOW WAS HURT IN
A CRIME, WOULD YOU WANT THEM TO BE ABLE TO TRIANGULATE
AND FIND ON CAMERA WHO IT WAS AND BRING THEM TO
JUSTICE AND PUNISH THEM? YOU WORD, SO THAT IS WHY IT
IS REALLY ALLURING. IMAGINE SOMEBODY YOU KNOW WAS
MUGGED, RAPED OR KILLED, I WANT TO FIND THE PERSON WHO DID
IT AND THIS CAN HELP US DO IT. THE BAD SIDE IS, WELL OKAY NOW
WE ARE INTO THOUGHT CRIMES AS WE TALK ABOUT WHAT THEY ARE
DOING ON SOCIAL MEDIA. THEN THERE IS THE PART THAT
IS TOTALLY MISLEADING. HOW MANY MEMES HAVE YOU SEEN
THAT INVOLVE VIOLENCE, POSTED BY SOMEONE WHO DID NOT
INTEND VIOLENCE AT ALL. AL PACINO, SAY HELLO TO MY
LITTLE FRIEND. GANGSTER RAP, SCARFACE,
WHATEVER IT MIGHT BE. COPS ARE ALREADY TRIGGER-HAPPY
IN THIS COUNTRY, AND THEN YOU ARE GOING TO SHOW THEM A
YELLOW OR A RED LIGHT AT A HOUSE, JESUS CHRIST. THEN THERE IS THE THIRD THING,
THE DOWNSIDE, WE ARE ALL BEING MONITORED, AND
THAT IS BIG BROTHER. YOU CAN’T DO ANYTHING IN THE
PUBLIC NOW WITHOUT THEM HAVING IT ON TAPE SOMEWHERE. I THINK IT IS A NATURAL HUMAN
URGE, THAT IS UNNERVING TO ME. I DON’T LIKE THAT, I DON’T
LIKE THAT THE GOVERNMENT IS TRACKING ME AT ALL TIMES. I AGREE WITH YOU. IT MAKES SENSE TO HAVE CERTAIN
SURVEILLANCE PROGRAMS IN PLACE TO ENSURE THAT IF THERE IS A
SHOOTING OR A ROBBERY IN A PUBLIC SETTING, YOU HAVE SOME
EVIDENCE OF THAT SO THAT YOU CAN PROSECUTE AND BRING PEOPLE TO JUSTICE. BUT I THINK RELYING ON SOCIAL
MEDIA IN ANY SHAPE OR FORM IS A REALLY BAD IDEA, ESPECIALLY
GIVEN CASES IN THE PAST WHERE INNOCENT KIDS, FOR
INSTANCE, GOT TARGETED BY POLICE OFFICIALS BECAUSE THEY
POSTED THAT LYRICS ON FACEBOOK. THAT LYRICS ARE VIOLENT, THAT
DOES NOT MEAN THAT THE PERSON POSTING THEM, OR EVEN ONE WHO
BROKE THEM IS A VIOLENT PERSON. IT IS A FORM OF
EXPRESSION AND ART. SOME PEOPLE DON’T LIKE THAT, I
GET THAT, BUT AGAIN THAT IS NOT A REPRESENTATION, OFTEN TIMES,
OF THE PEOPLE WHO POSTED IT. I WORRY ABOUT THAT AND I WORRY
ABOUT OUR PRIVACY, AND FEELING COMFORTABLE IN
A PUBLIC SETTING. FOR THE MOMENT BEING, WE
THINK THEY ARE GOING TO USE IT ON CRIME, BUT EVEN SO IT HAS
ALL THESE THIS ADVANTAGES WE LISTED FOR YOU. IMAGINE IT IS EVERYWHERE, AND
YES A LOT OF THE GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS MIGHT BE DECENT, GOOD
PEOPLE, SOME OF THEM ARE NOT GOING TO BE GOOD PEOPLE. THEN THEY ARE GOING TO TRACK
THEIR WIVES OR EX-WIVES, OR EX-HUSBANDS, OR CURRENT
HUSBANDS. UN GAMBLING, WHAT KIND OF
MASSAGE DID YOU GET? WHY DID YOU GO TO THE BANK? WHY DID YOU TAKE ALL THAT MONEY? WHY DID YOU SEE BOB? WHY DID YOU CCD? AND ON AND ON IT GOES. NOW YOU HAVE GIVEN AN ENORMOUS
AMOUNT OF POWER TO THESE GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS. SOME ON THE RIGHT IDEA
OR DON’T LIKE THAT. IF YOU DON’T LIKE THAT, YOU
MIGHT WANT TO THINK ABOUT THIS PROGRAM THAT IS VERY REAL, AND
IT IS COMING TO A NEIGHBORHOOD NEAR YOU.

  1. Im thinking they collected the data themselves they created the access to the database and if there is an actual hey i have a target what is there social media alert level seems like a valid way to narrow down on suspects.I hate the idea they can abuse it but if used correctly let them proceed and we observe it for its pros and cons.

  2. I'm not supportive of this at all….but most of you obviously aren't from Fresno. There's a murder a day there and its possible this is a reflection of the police force trying anything possible to make the city safe again. It is too extreme don't get me wrong, but grow up there. Its rough. Drive bys on my elementary schools, home invasions on the reg, massive shoot outs, drugs and gangs rampant….its not a safe city and most police officials there aren't paranoid. They are cops in Fresno. They are some of the best cops I've seen as far as not shooting everything and everyone Its a war on gang violence and its scary as shit there. The social media thing is too much but surveying the city isn't new. We are all profiled here because we live here. Its just the territory of this meth town. Welcome to Fresno y'all.

  3. I think we're way closer to sky net than people realize. So much shit is being automated using only computer data points and even go as far as taking human decisions out of the equation. Like launching bombs at a location knowing only meta data. They're computers monitoring cell phone GPS coordinates and they calculate a rating for each second based on the location of certain cell phones that were linked to a threat (or being one of the contacts in a phone linked to a threat) and once the rating gets high enough, an alert is sent to the military so they can decide whether or not to bomb that area. As of right now the ratings only send an alert, and then us humans decide what to do from there, BUT it's only a matter of time before some ratings, like absurdly high ones (say if 10 Isis leaders happen to be in the same 15ft radius or something) automatically launch bombs on that location. And once that moment happens, we're fucked. That was the big moment in Terminator. When missile launches no longer required the human input. Yes it's just a movie lol but most of the things that lead up to that moment in the movie have already happened in the last 15 years.

  4. if you invade my private life like that, private or in public (which i see as private if I am doing what I need to do to move forward with my like, like buying toilet paper) i want to be compensated. it is inconvenient to me to be surveilled constantly.

  5. it's gonna backfire on them. hope they dumb ass kinked out all the bugs. them hacker guys get a whiff of the project they would have hell trying to stay online.

  6. So when people swarm cops with camera phones that is ok. But when those cameras are turned the other direction it is bad? Sorry sjw's, you made you bed now lie in it.

  7. Haha, for me the cops would pull up "Subject is anti-government and an activist, subject also is very aware of the law and likely will film any police engagement."

  8. Yellow does not mean there is a threat. It means that there could be one. There is no reason to assume the system did anything wrong,. It is not judge and jury. just allows police to focus resources.

  9. If yo want to track a specific person, there is already a tool for it: Google. This tool allows detecting potential risks from a mass of people.

  10. Why is this always, always, a phase in the life of an empire?

It seems the older and more entrenched an established power gets the more it pushes for utter control of its own populace.

  11. If I'm going to be monitored as though I'm an employee on the clock, then give me the damn basic citizen income to cover shelter, food, etc then.

  12. yay! we are so close to a genocide you can almost taste it. We've been begging sense 9-11 for this so stop bitching, this is what you all wanted remember, protect us! protect us! we are to fat and dumb to protect ourselves.

  13. Having the government track and keep files on law abiding citizens is unconstitutional in the US. With that said, the US government keeps files on all its citizens on at least 8 different databases. Shit like this is only an extension on how far the government is willing to go to violate our constitutional rights. At some point, we the people need to wake up and stand up for our rights before the progressives on both sides of the isle take them all away.

  14. I live in Fresno and I do not like the fact that the FPD uses "Big Data" for policing. This is far to close to George Orwell's book "1984" which is about big brother and a government that is spies on its citizens, where they have thought crimes. Reminiscent of the old Soviet Union and the there police. Welcome to Fresno, Ca. The fascist state of Fresno.

  17. So social media is a public site and if someone was so inclined could personally monitor and report "dangerous" posts. The microphones and cameras sprung across the city spooks me more, it just screams "1984" to me.

  18. If all the social media aspect entailed was certain material getting hits like a hashtag of kill that bitch or something and then the police took a closer look at the individual, it doesn't seem too unreasonable. If a teenager got pinged for song lyrics and someone looked at the account and didn't see anything else suspicious, copy and paste the post into google and the song would come up and the cop could move on. Is there just not enough oversight for that not to be abused? There have been mass shooters who wrote manuscripts online that might have helped stop the massacre if they caught the attention of police. Too much power to the government?

  19. Trained CIA and NSA officers are, if we are to be honest, too dumb to effectively use the intelligence they gather. 9/11 showed that in painful detail. Idiotic, violence prone cops thinking they know something because a computer said something is a recipe for utter disaster.

  20. They are going to take it there until they have cameras in your home (in some voluntarily appliances, they already do). They will teach and convince this generation and the one after that giving up all of your info is normal. Windows 10, social media sites, emails that want your phone number to login, all of these big corporations are working together to make sure you are enslaved and no one is going to fight for you.

There is no electing a president. It's all a show like the last 8 years. There is no republican/democrat when they are all friends with each other and only put on a show for you on TV, which needs to be turned off now more than ever. Our only defense is us and revolt, which should've been done years ago. It won't go down peacefully unless you don't mind the modern day slavery for some likes on fbibook or instagategram.

Check with the elders and peep some history before it's re-written for their agenda. Also, understand that Americans don't run and control America.

  21. ALL ARE WITH THIS SHITS INCLUDING THIS HOE – THEY STEAL LIKE WHORES THIS SHITS . THE POLICE JOB IS TO BE CRIMINALS UNDERCOVER THE WHOLE TIME. AND YOU ALLOW THIS . ITS TIME FOR PURIFICATION

  22. I live in the hellhole they refer to as Fresno and i love the idea of these cameras out in public places. I do loss prevention for a large store and can't begin to explain how much having pan tilt zoom cameras in and around our store have helped us with not only shoplifting suspects but helped police with robberies outside our store and even one armed robbery inside. If you're not out committing crimes in public places where other people can see you anyway, then you shouldn't have a problem with cameras recording.
What i don't like is giving houses threat levels. That only gives police a false impression of what they are about to encounter when entering a home. Like Anna said a red flag house will make police paranoid before they even approach it which can lead to mistakes by the police.

  23. I don't know about you but I couldn't care less if some government agency knows that I looked at amateur porn last night at 9:35p.m. Or that I called my roommate earlier that night at 6:35pm about ordering a pizza. Or even that a credit card company offered me a B.S. loan in an email I recieved last Tuesday. You go ahead and knock your selves out!…. If you have nothing to hide it doesn't seem like it should matter that much. Especially at the price of possibly preventing a mass shooting or worse.

  24. The East German police, the Stazi, wish they had had this level of surveillance. We are the most spied on people in the history of the world.

  25. All this technology is rubbish! Just smile and the camera can't recognize you. That is why your not allowed to smile on you passport photo. Just put a tiny tattoo of a mould on your face and the camera can't recognize you! Just put a little star on your face and you'll see a cop run and ask you to remove it! The system is a joke

  26. The public is always complaining catch the bad guy, catch the bed guy so now they put up surveillance cameras and you f**** still complain!
