Ring’s CEO explains the Door View Cam

Ring is one of the biggest names in video
doorbells but until now it’s been a product that’s really only suitable for home owners. That’s because you have to drill into you
house to mount the doorbell. Well, no longer. Here at CES one of the big new products is
the Door View Cam. It replaces a conventional peephole, slots
straight through the door and gives you the same peephole functions and all of the digital
functions of a video doorbell. It’s the first doorbell from Ring that can
be used for people that live in apartments and people that rent their homes. Jamie Siminoff, chief inventor, Ring
“What we had is customers who were moving from their home to an apartment and they loved
that peace of mind of the Ring Video Doorbell and they couldn’t get that in their apartment
and they were emailing me saying ‘How do I get this?’ And we realized they had this peephole, this
door viewer and we could modify our system to be able to build something to give them
that same peace of mind in those different types of residences.” There are a couple of lenses in the Door View
Cam, the lower is a 1080p high-definition video camera while the upper one is a conventional
optical peephole. It looks something like this. “With this, we added some features. One of the features we added is a door knock
sensor because on this one people might not hit the doorbell button, because they might
not know that’s what it is, so they might knock on the door. The other thing we added is that on the motion
detection, in an apartment you might not want everyone passing by the door, only people
that stand at the door, so we have a motion detector that actually waits and you can set
it so that if someone stands at the door for 3 seconds or 4 seconds, it will then tell
you there is motion.” Ring says it will be available later in 2019
and will cost $199. It will be available in the U.S., U.K., Germany,
France, Netherlands, Belgium, Spain, Sweden, Denmark and Finland.

  1. Attached to the wall/door using double sided tape.
    Cost $200
    Removed by pealing it off.
First clown to come will be the 1st to remove it.

  2. When I look through the peephole is the person on the other side going to know I’m looking, or is it one sided?
