St. Johns County partnering with ‘Ring’


covering st. Johns County the Sheriff’s Office is partnering with the home surveillance company ring to bring up modern-day neighborhood watch program to st. Johns County communities for Jax reporter Allison Henning joins us live so Allison the overall goal is to create safer neighborhoods and make you safe in your own house that’s right they’re calling this neighborhood watch with a twist the Sheriff’s Office says by partnering with the community and different neighborhoods it can take advantage of technology use it to their advantage to solve crimes and keep them from happening in the first place neighborhood watch groups are often the eyes and ears of a community it fosters community you know you get to know your neighbors in addition to that you’re able to reduce crime because you have people looking out for each other in st. Johns County you’ll see signs like this one posted warning crooks to stay away but today even when the human element dissipates and goes to work there’s still thousands upon thousands of eyes and ears out there in video cameras and surveillance technology the st. Johns County Sheriff’s Office is bringing a new initiative to the area through a digital platform it’s where neighborhood and home security meets social media you can upload a video on this portal and then share it again with with your neighborhood other neighborhoods countywide specified or with law enforcement directly the neighbors by ring app works in real-time through a live feed it’s free and you don’t need to have a ring doorbell to join all you have to do is download the neighbors app join your neighborhood and customize the area you want to see the sheriff’s office is encouraging neighborhoods countywide to get involved and the Sheriff’s Office will be holding four informational meetings throughout this month they will be you know letting people know how the app works and how people in the community can get involved with it the first meeting happening tonight at the Ponte Vedra concert hall from 7:00 to 8:30 we’ve also posted the other locations and times on our website news for Jax comm reporting live this morning Allison Henning channel 4 the local station
